The Arms of Thal

So this is my first Final Fantasy XIV Online song (to go with all the World of Warcraft ones I’ve written). Notionally, it’s written by my bard character as a tribute to fallen friends (in at least two cases, falling specifically in the act of protecting him); the list in the video is as of the end of the main Heavensward storyline (patch 3.0), while the lyric below adds Papalymo, who (spoiler) bites it in Patch 3.5. As noted, the list will be getting even longer. Oh, and as if you couldn’t guess, Thal is the Eorzean god of the underworld, while Halone (hal-OWN-ay) is the patron goddess of Ishgard. Also, “Moon-bride Wolf’s-daughter” is the literal translation of Moenbryda’s full name.

Words and music by Joseph Abbott

Wolf’s daughter, moon’s bride
Cunning fighter with an axe at her side
Deep scholar, she stood so tall
But to stop the masked one, she gave her all
And she rests in the arms of Thal
Yes, she rests in the arms of Thal

Knight noble, kind and good
Providing refuge when none else would
He lived to serve — to aid those in need
A burned-through shield marked his final deed
And he walks in Halone’s hall
Carried thence by the arms of Thal

Dragon friend, in Shiva’s name
She fought for peace and false scripture’s shame
A heart of passion her title belied
Bringing down a dreadnought she fought and died
And she rests in the arms of Thal
Yes, she rests in the arms of Thal

BRIDGE: Waking Sands
Rising Stones
So many friends
So many bones
To save our land
To serve the Light
To honor them
We must strive for right

(spoken:) Noraxia, Moenbryda, Wilred, Haurchefant, Ysayle, Papalymo

I know the list will go on and on
Their blood the price tag for our seventh dawn
We will remember the cost they bore
We have much to do for them — much and more
They who rest in the arms of Thal
They who rest in the arms of Thal
They who gave for us their all
They rest in the arms of Thal

This is the bio am I doing this right? Probably not.
